GFM Towing
Operates in compliance with the Province of Ontario's Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act, 2021 (TSSEA) and its applicable regulations.
As part of these rules, every Tow and Storage Operator in Ontario must submit a Maximum Rate Schedule to the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO).
What is a Maximum Rate Schedule?
It is a provincially regulated document that sets out the highest amounts that may be charged for towing and storage services under the most complex or demanding circumstances. These amounts act as a legal ceiling and not a standard cost of a tow.
Why are the maximums higher than what you might expect?
Because they must account for all potential scenarios, including challenging recoveries, specialized equipment, severe weather conditions, or circumstances that might require additional time, resources and safety measures.
Will I be charged the maximum amount?
Your actual charge depends on the specifics of your situation; your vehicle, location, and conditions at the scene. Most routine tows do not involve rare circumstances reflected in the maximum rates. However, in certain situations, the work required might meet the criteria where the maximum rate does become applicable. In those cases, we ensure charges remain fully compliant with TSSEA requirements.
What does this mean for you?
- Our prices will never exceed the posted maximum rates posted on the MTO website.
- Before we begin a tow (*unless directed by police or authorized individual), we will provide:
- Our current rates,
- Your rights as a consumer
- An opportunity to ask questions
- We will only proceed with your consent*
- You can request a copy of our Maximum Rate Schedule at any time
- The rates represent maximums, not minimums. Actual charges depend on the service need and circumstances.
You Have a Right to Choose Your own Tow
Under TSSEA, you have the right to choose your own tow operator (*unless police or law enforcement direct the tow for safety or investigative reasons). If your vehicle is safe to access and you are able to make the decision yourself, you may select the towing company you trust. We support your right to make an informed choice and ensure that you feel confident and comfortable before any service begins.
At GFM Towing, our approach is rooted in fair, reasonable and transparent service, back by strong ties to the communities that we serve. We understand that towing can be stressful, so we encourage customers to ask questions about rates and processes before service begins. We're always open to discussing any questions or concerns so you feel informed and comfortable.
If you ever have questions about our pricing, or how TSSEA applied to your situation, we're here to help!
